Mosquitoes, 90 min, est. release 2026
Nestled behind the rocky boulders of Australia’s first nude beach are neighbours and besties Ali, a middle-aged waitress and hostess-with-the-mostess, and Evelyn, an octogenarian avant-garde artist originally from rural Alberta. The unlikely duo embark on a rambling international roadtrip to stage a retrospective at the Vancouver Art Gallery, taking the scenic route through Evelyn’s past with stops in Hawaii and Haida Gwaii. Their journey spirals into tequila-soaked madness, testing the boundaries of love, labour, and legacy between two fascinating women with complicated histories. Joining them is Jen, a filmmaker and Ali’s only child armed with years of home movies, voicemails, and the creeping realisation that the film they set out to make about an eccentric elder is actually about their mother. Shot across a decade on multiple digital and analog formats, MOSQUITOES is full-on assemblage dripping with all the feels—think GREY GARDENS meets ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS—a one-of-kind romp that could only be made from the inside.
